11 Places to Read in Your Neighborhood
Whether at home or at work, finding a quiet and relaxing place to read can be a challenge for many of us. So, in our search for this "perfect" place, we came across a few that can also be found in your neighborhood.
1. A park -- Always carry a blanket or a foldable chair with you in your car or just plop yourself on a park bench to enjoy your book, all while taking in some fresh air.
2. A coffee shop -- They can be a bit noisy with the chatter and loud music, but many coffee shops have outdoor patios suitable for outdoor readers needing a midday cup of joe.
3. A bar -- Avoid the crowds at night and take a book with you to a cozy bar at midday. Read peacefully all while enjoying a glass of wine or beer.
4. A train (or bus) -- A good story always makes a train ride more pleasant. Sit back and enjoy the ride with your book on hand.
5. While waiting ... for a meeting to start, for your date, to board a plane, etc. -- Eases the anxiety and anticipation, and it will give you something to talk about or just help clear your mind of unnecessary worries.
6. The beach -- The beach can be so relaxing. Find a quiet place to sit, lay out your blanket, and enjoy some snacks, all while listening to the waves as you read.
7. A reading nook -- It doesn't have to be as elaborate as the picture below, but I'm sure you get the idea. Find comfy pillows or blankets and lay them out in a small corner in your home. Decorate the area with more books, dim lighting, pictures of your favorite places and people. Get creative. It'll make the area intimate and your own.
8. Your backyard (or front yard) -- Many people underestimate the privilege of a backyard (or front yard). Water the grass, add more plants and flowers, and set some cute chairs and tables out that are comfortable enough for your reading pleasures.
9. Your porch -- This area might inspire you to buy a porch swing (if space allows) or a comfy chair to set out front. But, the steps to your front door could work just as well for a good read.
10. A museum -- Museums are quiet. So, take a book with you to read during your viewing breaks or just to read at a beautiful place.
11. Your car -- Step out of the office for a few minutes. Read a few chapters or two from a new book. Catch up on current events. It'll ease emotions/concerns/confusion that jobs tend to create in many of us.
And there you have it. I hope that these ideas have inspired the reader in you. Let's get this new year started with fresh and new perspectives, all for ourselves and the world around us.
